WARDROBE: |
|
The islands of Hawaii
have many diverse
ecosystems, each with
different climates. For
example, the tops of
Mauna Kea (Big Island)
and Mt. Haleakala (Maui)
get snow in the winter
while it is in the 70's
at beaches around the
islands. Consider what
activities you plan to
enjoy, and then pack. If
you plan to explore
trails through
rainforests bring shoes
you don’t mind getting
really muddy. If you
plan to walk the lava
fields of Volcano’s
National Park on the Big
Island keep in mind that
some lava is very sharp
and proper hiking shoes
are necessary. Just be
casual. You do not need
to bring a suit, dress
slacks, or fancy cloths.
The attitude and dress
code for the islands is
"hang loose" even at the
fanciest of
restaurants.

PLANE TALK
Caribbean
Airlines,
the new national carrier of Trinidad and
Tobago, began operations on January 1 as
British West Indies Airways (BWIA) faded out
of the picture. The new carrier offers
Antigua, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St.
Lucia, St. Maarten, Suriname and Trinidad
and Tobago in the Caribbean and it provides
service from Toronto as part of its
international gateways.
WestJet
launches biz pass:
WestJet has launched a “Travel Pass” for
business travelers flying between Toronto,
Ottawa and Montreal. Available for travel
through May 31, the pass costs $1,700 and is
good for 10 one-way flights (including all
taxes, fees and surcharges). According to
officials, the pass offers significant
savings and flexibility with guests able to
transfer the passes between colleagues,
friends and family members. The offer is not
available in combination with other fares
and all Travel Passes must be purchased by
Jan. 31.
United
Airlines
today unveiled initial details about the
previously announced $165 million upgrade to
its international widebody fleet that
includes a new luxurious United First Suite,
which provides passengers with more privacy,
personal space and comfort on overseas
flights. The new suite was designed to be
the optimal space to work, sleep or relax
while enjoying the latest entertainment and
exclusive amenities. The new First Suite is
nearly three inches wider than the existing,
United First Suite and reclines to multiple
angles or serves as a flat 6-foot, 6-inch
bed.
Porter Airlines has added some
comfort to its flying experience-giving
passengers departing from or arriving at
Toronto City Centre Airport (TCCA) a
completely climate-controlled environment
with the recent installation of new covered
walkways from airport gates to the aircraft.
Passengers are protected from the weather
during aircraft boarding and deplaning. The
TCCA installation also allows two aircraft
to simultaneously board or deplane
passengers, improving turnaround times and
schedule reliability.

TRANS FAT Removed
from menu!
Royal Caribbean International will
be the first cruise line to begin
removing trans fats from its menus;
a process it said will be complete
by the end of 2007. Trans fat is a
byproduct of chemically hydrogenated
vegetable oil and has been linked to
diabetes, high blood pressure and
high cholesterol. In addition, Loews
Hotels properties in the U.S. and
Canada and Walt Disney Co. and
Universal Parks & Resorts theme
parks in the U.S. revealed similar
plans to eliminate trans fats from
their menus this year. Meanwhile,
JetBlue is already offering a 100%
trans fat-free selection of snacks
and beverages.

Passport Canada
is experiencing a sharp
increase in passport
applications due to
upcoming new US
requirements for air
travel to the United
States and is advising
travelers who don't need
a passport right away to
wait until the spring.
To avoid congestion,
delays, and waiting time
at its offices, Passport
Canada recommends that
Canadians send their
applications by mail or
bring their applications
to a Service Canada or
Canada Post receiving
agent.
A
complete checklist
identifying the steps in
the passport application
process, as well as the
location of Passport
Canada offices and
Canada Post/Service
Canada receiving agents,
