SAIL AWAY

Cruising with Mickey
and Friends
Sailing with
Mickey and friends can
be just as fun as
meeting them in Walt
Disney World.
Just like
in Orlando, the engaging
activities and programs
found on Disney cruise
ships. Fun is key on the
ships, but it’s less
stressful for parents:
no line-ups, long treks
across the park, and no
suitcases or strollers
to drag around.
|
|
During
the cruise, children get
a chance to dress up
alongside many of their
favourite Disney
characters: for a few
days, they become the
happiest pirates of the
Caribbean. |

PLANE TALK
Porter
Airlines
has received official clearance from the
U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to
provide scheduled and charter service. The
first planned destination is New York
through Newark Liberty International
Airport, with plans to ultimately serve as
many as nine US destinations,
including New York, Chicago, Boston,
Washington, D.C., Philadelphia,
Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cincinnati and
Cleveland.
Air
Canada ranks seventh - A dismal
showing by NW has enabled AC to shed the
ignominy it endured last year when it
finished dead last in the annual J.D. Power
study of passenger satisfaction on eight
major North American carriers. The list
rates legacy carriers, with low-cost
airlines ranked separately. NW plunged in
six of seven categories, enabling AC to move
into 7th out of eight rated carriers
US airlines
continue to plummet-
Multiple studies are showing plunging
satisfaction with the US airline industry.
To cite just one example: A recent complaint
rate for US Airways was triple what it was
at the same time last year. Perhaps the
worst place in the country for airline
passengers is New York, where upwards of one
third of all flights at Newark Liberty, John
F. Kennedy and LaGuardia were either late or
cancelled. That led to nationwide
disruptions. Just in Newark alone, 15,480
delayed flights in a recent two-month period
left the ground an average 95 minutes after
their scheduled departure time, according to
federal figures.
WestJet
adds Jamaica, DR to schedule-WestJet
will not only be flying high this winter
with the addition of seasonal, non-stop
service to Montego Bay, Jamaica; Puerto
Plata, Dominican Republic; and Punta Cana,
Dominican Republic. The new destinations are
part of the carrier’s enhanced winter
schedule that will also see an increase in
frequency to its Hawaiian destinations,
along with new non-stop flights in its
existing network.

Canada/U.S. border
crossings:
no passports needed until 2009 In a
sharp rebuke of American security
plans, the House of Representatives
voted Friday to force the
administration to delay the passport
rule at Canada-U.S. border crossings
until mid-2009.
Legislators also
moved to withhold US$100 million
from funds earmarked by the Homeland
Security Department to implement the
passport requirement until the
department has investigated whether
high-tech driver's licences could
work just as well.
The overwhelming
379-45 vote is a major boost for
Canada, which has long advocated a
delay in requiring passports at the
border and suggested using
enhanced driver's licences as
alternatives.
